在作为第二语言或外语的英语学习中,词汇量的扩大是英语学习的重要方面。但是,对于大多数学生来说词汇学习是个较困难的问题。学习者投入了大量的时间背单词,但有限的词汇量和词汇用法知识的缺乏仍然导致学生在英语听、说、读、写方面遇到很多困难。如何学好英语词汇一直是师生们所关心的问题。很多学习者学习环境相同,成绩差一却很大‘有些学生学习很刻苦,但成绩却不尽如意。其原因一直是词汇教学领域所关注的问题。英语词汇教学中,学习策略是一个暂新的、引人注目的研究领域。从某种程度上说,语言本身就是一种策略性行为,而学生采用什么学习策略又和他们的学习态度、学习观念和学习能力分不开。近年来,国内外专家学者对影响词汇学习策略进行了大量研究并取得了不少成果。Cohen(1990)、nation(1990)等人全面论述了词汇学习的各种策略并做了详细的分类说明。O’malloy 和Chamot (1990)的学习策略分类方法,它主要包括学生关羽词汇学习的观点和策略。策略分为两个层次:元认知策略和认知策略。前者又分制定计划、自我评估、自我检查和选择性分配注意力四种。后者分死记硬背策略、分类策略、上下文策略、查字典策略、猜测策略、做练习策略以及联系策略。分类策略又分为多种工具的策略例如死记硬背策略(1)反复朗读;(2)反复拼写;(3)边读边写等。在中国也有人在英语学习策略方面做过一些研究,如XXX(1995),XXX(1993),XXX(1994)。近十多年来,不少专家学者在这方面做了研究发现:词汇学习策略有对英语学习的极大影响。对于大多数中国大学生来说,学习英语过程中遇到的一个主要问题就是词汇学习。

因此本文将着重研究非重点学校的非英语专业学生词汇学习策略的使用情况。通过问卷调查的形式,分析得出结论:学生应该结合实际,有针对性地采取恰当的词汇学习策略解决困难问题的学习的词汇,并促进整体改善的英语学习策略使用案例进行统计分析。

Vocabulary expansion is an important aspect during the process of learning English as a second or foreign language. However, for most students, vocabulary learning is one of the most difficult problems. They often get half the results with twice the efforts due to a lack of effective memory methods. As a result, a lot of difficulties exist in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing because of the limited vocabulary and the inadequate usages of the words they got. Thus how to learn English vocabulary has been a concern for both teachers and students. There are many learners who share the same learning environment with others yet they can only get worse results though they have been studying very hard. The reason has been a concern in the field of vocabulary teaching. Vocabulary learning strategy is a new and noticeable research area in English vocabulary teaching. To some extent, the language itself is a kind of strategic behavior. And the learning strategies the students adopt are inseparable with their learning attitude, learning belief and learning ability. In recent years, experts and scholars at home and abroad have conducted a lot of research and achieved great results on the learning strategies affecting vocabulary learning. Cohen (1990), Nation (1990) and some other experts have fully discussed vocabulary learning strategies and even made a detailed classification. According to O'malloy and Chamot (1990), the strategies can be mainly classified into two types: meta cognitive strategies and cognitive strategies. The former involves four kinds: planing, self-assessment, self-check and selective allocation of attention while the latter involves rote strategy, classification strategy, context strategy, the strategy of consulting a dictionary, guessing strategy, strategy of doing exercises and linking strategies. Rote strategy is subdivided into a variety of tool strategies like ( 1 ) repeated reading ; (2) repeated spelling; (3) read while write. In China some research has also been done in English learning strategies, such as XXX (1995), XX (1993) and XXX (1994). Over the past decade, many experts and scholars doing the research have found out that vocabulary learning strategies have a great impact on English learning. For most Chinese college students, vocabulary learning has been one of the main problems encountered in the process of their English learning.

Thus this article will focus on the application of vocabulary learning strategies of non-English major students in non - key universities. A conclusion can be drawn through surveys: students should take their own situation into consideration and adopt appropriate vocabulary learning strategies to solve the difficult problem of vocabulary learning and promote the overall improvement of English.
